Meet Joe

Born August 1, 1981 in Chicago, Illinois, pro golfer Joe Affrunti says getting his PGA TOUR card at the 2010 Tour Championship has been his biggest thrill in golf thus far. He lists the Chicago Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup as his biggest thrill outside golf. Sports have always played a big role in Joe’s life, and he showed early promise in his golf career. Affrunti won the Chicago District Amateur Championship two years in a row, in 2000 and 2001.

Affrunti turned professional in 2004. He joined the Tour in 2010 and earned his PGA TOUR card for the 2011 season. His professional wins include the 2004 Illinois Open, the 2009 Kandy Waters Memorial Classic, and the 2009 Southern Dunes Winter Series. John Swenson is his instructor.

He lists Troon as his favorite golf course. The Chicago Blackhawks, Bears, and White Sox are his favorite professional teams. In keeping with the sports theme, his favorite movies are Caddyshack and Slap Shot. In addition to golf, Affrunti lettered in high school hockey. With that in mind, Joe would round out his dream foursome with Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Arnold Palmer.

Superstitions include carrying two tees and one coin in his right pocket during events.
